When the term “Master Gardener” was first coined in the early 1970s to describe a new Extension program in Washington State, few could have predicted it would spread into Texas and blossom into one of the most effective volunteer organizations in the State.

Master Gardeners have four major objectives, as defined in the Texas Master Gardener Management Guide:
to expand the capabilities of Texas A & M AgriLife Extension Service to disseminate horticultural information to individuals and groups in the community,
to develop and enhance community projects related to horticulture, including: horticultural therapy projects, community gardens, and demonstration gardens,
to develop a Master Gardener network to assist in administration of the local Master Gardener Program,
to enhance 4-H programs through the establishment of 4-H horticultural clubs and Junior Master Gardener groups.
KCMGA achieves these objective through a variety of activities, described throughout this site, including:
Distributing horticultural information to the community through:
Answering questions by telephone and at local events,
Distributing horticultural literature,
Organizing local horticultural education events,
Consulting with local organizations on horticultural issues and
Showcasig the best in horticultural practices by:
Designing and maintaining demonstration gardens,
Assisting in design and maintenance of community gardens,
Participating in garden trials.

Our Bylaws are patterned after the State Association Bylaws. They were written and approved in 2002 and are reviewed and revised as needed.

501(c)(3) Statement
Kaufman County Master Gardener Association is a 501 (c) (3), educational, public-service-oriented organization that supports Texas A & M AgriLife Extension. We provide research-based information about gardening and water literacy to the residents of Kaufman County through seminars, workshops and information booths. We also answer individual question that are submitted by telephone, email or through Facebook.

The Association is not affiliated with any commercial enterprise. See the links on the home page for more information about contributing to our projects.
Financial Accountability
Financial Accountability
Kaufman County Master Gardener Association is committed to responsible and transparent management of its financial resources. Association funds are managed in accordance with our bylaws and established financial procedures. Financial activity is reported regularly to the membership, and Association records are maintained for accountability and review.
